Weekly update 2.07.07

Hi everyone!

Welcome to another exciting week. Only two more weeks after this one before our long Summer break!

As promised, Baby News!! Most of you will already know that Mrs Morgan had a baby girl on Monday 25th June at 1:51 am. The baby was a whopping 7 pounds 8 ounces and is reported to have chubby cheeks! So far she is called Erin Mae but her name may change. We send our love and best wishes to Mrs Morgan and her husband Paul and sincerely hope they may be able to get some sleep over the coming weeks! We look forward to seeing Erin in the near future.

Just a reminder that Sports Day has been postponed from this week to 17th July due to the terrible weather conditions. We have still not managed to get out onto the field for a practice but hopefully this week the weather may improve enough to let us.

We enjoyed our multi-cultural week so much last week, that we have decided to continue with the theme this week. We made the African Maasai masks and the children really enjoyed the experience, so this week we will be making some more African artifacts.

Literacy

We are also going to read African traditional stories and hopefully write some ourselves.

Here are some websites which have African stories to read:

Numeracy

We are continuing to learn about Time.

The children will be learning about how to use units of time: hours, minutes and seconds. We will be recapping the analogue clock - the minute and hour hands on the clock. You could help your child by talking about special times of the day -what time do these events happen - breakfast, beginning of school, lunch, clubs, tea time bed time.

ALL children MUST be able to understand o'clock and half past.

MOST children SHOULD be able to understand the units of time:hours, minutes and seconds.

SOME children COULD be able to read the time to the quarter hour on analogue and digital clocks.

Judaism

We will be continuing to learn about the religion of Judaism. The children have found this a facinating topic. The children will look at special places, learn that Saturday is God's special day - Shabbat, the family gathers for a meal, to understand and respect Shabbat, the day of rest, worship and family.

We will also be starting our last Here I Am topic of this year - Special Places.

The children will be recognising special places for their families and why they may be special.

Finally, just to let you know that your child's annual report is due to be sent home at the end of this week. The reports are a recognition of all the hard work the children have done over the year. We hope you enjoy reading them!

Have great week.

The Year 1/2 team.
