Weekly Update:25th June 2007
Hi and welcome to a fabulous multicultural week! This week the children are going to be looking at aspects of the country "Africa!" We have planned a variety of stimulating lessons which the children will really enjoy. We will be continuing with Numeracy, but other subjects will be combined to the the topic of Africa. Being Multicultural Week we will also be looking at the a different religion. Judaism will be the main religious theme this week.
Miss Barker would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and lovely presents, we will surely miss her and wish her every success in the future.
The children will be learning three main aspects this week:
Song - the children will listen to and learn aspects of an African song.
Comparisons between Africa and home - the children will use their geographical skills to look at similarities and differences between where they live and Africa.
Here I Am - JUDAISM WEEK - the children will look at special places, learn that Saturday is God's special day - Shabbat, the family gathers for a meal, to understand and respect Shabbat, the day of rest, worship and family.
The children will be making an African Maasai Beadwork, traditionally from Kenya. These colourful pieces of jewellery will be make from card, foil, ribbon, coloured paper, felt tip pens, and beads - the children are really going to love treading those beads!!!
NUMERACY
The children will be learning about how to use units of time: hours, minutes and seconds. We will be recapping the analogue clock - the minute and hour hands on the clock. You could help your child by talking about special times of the day -what time do these events happen - breakfast, beginning of school, lunch, clubs, tea time bed time.
ALL children MUST be able to understand o'clock and half past.
MOST children SHOULD be able to understand the units of time:hours, minutes and seconds.
SOME children COULD be able to read the time to the quarter hour on analogue and digital clocks.
