Weekly update 11.06.07
Hi everyone!
Welcome back to the last half-term of this school year. We hope that you all had a great break and are ready to work hard for the next few weeks.
This half-term has lots of things to look forward to, including Sports Day, annual reports and the Leaver's Mass. More about each event as it comes up.
Literacy.
This week we are learning about Information Texts, with the aim of being able to write individual information texts about 'The Seaside' by the end of next week.
ALL children MUST be able to understand the distinction between Fact and Fiction.
MOST children SHOULD be able to use a contents page and index to find their way about a text.
SOME children COULD scan a text to find specific sections, e.g key words or phrases, sub headings.
Try these websites to help with punctuation.
Numeracy.
This week we are learning about Weight and Time. Ask your parents to help you with this at home. Maybe you could find out how long your favourite TV program is on for. Look in the kitchen cupboards for food items. Check the labels for the units used to measure weight. Try putting a variety of food items in order according to their weights, lightest to heaviest. Who is the lightest/heaviest member of your family? If you have a set of scales at home try weighing a variety of items and look for the units that you could see.
ALL children MUST be able to compare 2 or more weights by direct comparison.
MOST children SHOULD begin to recognise the relationships betwen grams and kilograms.
SOME children COULD be able to read simple weighing scales to the nearest labelled divisions.

Science.
We are continuing with the topic of Pushes and Pulls.
In particular:-
To observe and describe different ways of moving.
That pushing or pulling things can make objects start or stop moving.
To identify similarities and differences between the movement of different objects.

Topic.
We are continuing to learn about Seaside Holidays in the Past.
In particular:-
To use time related vocabulary.
To develop skills of enquiry.
To use a photo as a source of evidence about the recent past.
To identify features associated with seaside holidays today.

Have a good week.
