Hi everyone
We have got an action packed week for the children this week. First of all, just to let you know that we had a successful R.E. inspection last Wednesday. The children's behaviour was fantastic as usual we are very proud of them! The inspectors commented on how articulate the children were. Last Friday the children listened to a presentation by a representative from Scottish Power who provided a Safety talk about the dangers of electricity both in the home and the community. The children were all given a free ruler! Are you able to measure objects around your house with them?
This week we welcome Miss McGinty, a final year teaching student from Liverpool Hope University. She will be completing her practice in Mrs Morgan's class. We hope that she will feel very welcome.
On Thursday afternoon we will be taking the children to St Joseph's Church for a visit (with your permission of course!). Father Richard has very kindly agreed to talking to the children about what happens during Lent and showing the children the Stations of the Cross. A letter will be sent out to you providing information about the visit during the early part of next week.
In Literacy this week and for the next couple of weeks will be studying 'Traditional Tales from Other Cultures'. If you have any traditional tales from other cultures at home please bring them into school. We will be comparing and contrasting them with our traditional tales. The children will also be writing character profiles once again.Other areas that we will be focusing on are antonyms (opposites e.g. short/tall) and speech bubbles/speech marks and verb tenses. Perhaps you could look out for them when you are reading at home. Do you know when to use speech marks and how to write them?
ALL children MUST be able to write a sentence including one adjective to describe a character.
MOST children SHOULD be able to write a number of simple sentences about a character using key words from the text.
SOME children COULD be able to write a number of sentences about a character using descriptive words and connectives.

In Numeracy this week we will be looking at the topic of money. We will be looking at coin recognition again and also giving amounts of change and solving money problems. Perhaps if you go into a shop you could try to work out how much different things cost and try to add two items together. Were you correct? If you are feeling really clever you could try to work out how much ten items cost. Ask if you can have a look at the till receipt. This is the piece of paper that you get when you have paid for your shopping. You could look to see how much different things cost and try to work out which coins you would use.
ALL children MUST be able to recognise all coins up to 2
MOST children SHOULD be able to make totals of money up to 2/50p and work out how to give change.
SOME children COULD apply their understanding of money in problem solving.

In Science this week we will begin to study different plants in the environment and talk about the hazards of working with soil. The children will have to predict the different types of plants found in different environments. Do you recognise any plants in your garden? Can you name them? What type of area do these plants like to grow in?
Our ICT lesson this week will involve using a search tool to answer simple questions. Maybe you could use a search engine e.g. www.google.co.uk or www.yahooligans.co.uk to search for information about plants and animals. We will also be discussing in PSHE how to care for animals and treat them with respect.
