Hi, welcome back to yet another busy half term. We will be doing lots of interesting things such as having a visit from the fire brigade within the next couple of weeks. We also have some important visitors coming to the school, in March, from the archdiocese to carry out an R.E. inspection. We hope that you are well rested and ready for lots more learning.
As you know before half term we spent some time looking at the topic of the Fire of London. The children enjoyed the topic so much that we decided to continue with it for an extra week. This week we will be catching up with some DT that we did not have chance to do before half term and completing our Fire of London books.
In Literacy this week we will be exploring dictionaries. Do you have a dictionary at home that you could have a look at? Think of a word, can you find out what it means (the definition)? Perhaps you could make up your own dictionary on something that interests you. We will be talking about the features of a dictionary and the fact that it goes in alphabetical order. Perhaps you could practice ordering random letters particularly if you have magnetic letters at home.
By the end of the week:
ALL children MUST be able to use a simple picture dictionary.
MOST children SHOULD be able to use dictionaries and glossaries to locate the words using intitial letter.
SOME children COULD be able to use any other alphabetically ordered text and discuss how they are used.

In Numeracy we will be grouping numbers in twos, fives and tens and beginning to look at multiplication. How far can you count in 2s, 5s and 10s? Perhaps you could start by learning your twos, fives and tens times tables by rote. Your parents will have had plenty of practice when they were at school!
By the end of the week:
ALL children MUST be able to count on in twos (up to 20) and tens (up to 100).
MOST children SHOULD be able to count on and back in twos, fives and tens up to 100 and be able to recognise multiplication as repeated addition.
SOME children COULD be able to count on and back in twos, fives and tens from any given number and be able to use the 'X' sign.

In HERE I AM we will be investigating the topic of memories. We will be sharing some special memories that the children have and talking about how we remember them.
Have a good week
