Hi everyone,
The children have been very busy learning their parts for the Christmas Play. We have asked the children to know their lines by Monday and be able to recite their words without a script - we know they can do it. (There might be a few main characters who have a lot of lines, don't worry they can have a little bit longer)
Some children are starting the bring their Christmas play costume into school. Thank you. If you are struggling with any of the costumes please contact the staff and we will be happy to ask around.
Due to starting rehearsals this week the children will be continuing with the work we have planned for a second week.
Literacy
We have now started the topic of Instructions. The children will be continuing to read, follow and give oral instructions and recognising the key features. This is still a great opportunity to get out those old board games and have a look at the instructions. How are they set out? What kind of language is used? Are they easy to follow? If you are out and about, look out for any examples of instructional language that you may see, e.g directions to places, road signs, posters etc.By the end of the week:-
ALL children MUST be able to read and follow a series of simple instructions correctly.
MOST children SHOULD be able to give oral instructions in the correct sequence.
SOME children COULD identify key features of written instructions.

Numeracy
This week we will be continuing to work on the theme of subtraction by counting back in 1s, 10s and 100s from a given number.
The homework was using money, it would be great if the children occasionally are given the opportunity at home to use money in a real situation, especially with counting the change given.
By the end of the week:-
ALL children MUST count on or back (in ones from any small number, in tens from and back to zero, in twos from zero then one, in steps of 5 from zero to 20, in steps of 3 from zero).
MOST children SHOULD count on or back (in ones or tens from any two-digit number, in hundreds from and back to zero, in twos from any small number, in steps of 3, 4 or 5 to at least 30 from and back to zero then from and back to any given small number).
SOME children COULD count on or back (in tens or hundreds from any two- or three-digit number, in twos from any two-digit number, in steps of 3, 4 or 5 from any small number to at least 50)

Topic
Our Science topic is Variation where we begin to look at similarities and differences between living things. This links into our anti-bullying week - looking at differences between ourselves and celebrating these differences.
ALL children MUST be able to describe simple characteristics that define plants and animals.
MOST children SHOULD be able to state that humans belong to the group of animals and describe some similarities.
SOME children COULD be able to describe ways in which humans are different from many other animals.

Here I Am
We continue our topic of Invitations this week and the children will be looking more closely at the sacrament of Baptism, and realise that this is when babies are invited into the family of the Church. If any children have any photographs of their Christening then we would love to see them.
FOSV Disco
Many thanks to all the parents and children who supported our Infant disco on Thursday. What a fabulous boogie! If any parents have any time (or talents!) to spare, why not join the Friends of St Vincent’s to see how you can support our children. They would be very grateful of any support and ideas.
Christmas Production
The children have been allocated their places this week, as the performance is drawing ever closer. The children all know which parts they have and you should have received your letter informing you of this and the costume that is needed. Please ask any member of staff if you need any help with this. You should have also received your tickets this week in your child’s book bag. Please ensure that they are kept in a safe place, as they cannot be re-issued. There is a limit to one ticket per performance, per family, although you may wish to swap between yourselves. Also, please bear in mind that children under 3 may be admitted without a ticket, but they must be able to sit on a parent’s knee for the duration of the performance. All children over 3, need their own ticket. I am sure that you will support us with these arrangements.
School Photographer
Photographs have been distributed. Please send in the orders by Monday as the photographer will be collecting the orders by the Tuesday. Thank You.
Christmas Party
The children will be receiving a letter this week about the Christmas Party. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of 2.50 to cover the costs. Please make a note in your diaries.
Operation Christmas Child
Today the children have been showed a great example of a completed shoe box. It would be great to beat our highest amount of 200 boxes. The completed boxes need to be in school by Wednesday 26th November.
Anti-Bullying Week
This week across the school it will be anti-bullying week. The children will be focusing on getting along and be having extra circle time to discuss topical issues.
Have a great week!
Only 38 'sleeps' until Christmas!!!!
Love from The Year 2 Team
