Weekly update 6.07.09
Hi everyone!
Welcome to the penultimate week of the school year!! Wow, it has gone SO fast.
The children had a fantastic time at our Sports Day last Wednesday. Thankfully the good weather held and we managed to complete the races. A big Thank you to Mrs Pint-Edwards for organising it, and for organising the refreshments.
This week our Year 2 children will be going up to the Junior department to meet their new teacher annd to get a 'feel' for life in the Juniors. Hopefully this can be arranged for Tuesday afternoon and I'm sure the children will be full of information when they return.
FOSV disco
The Infant disco is on Wednesday 8th July 6-7:30PM.
School trip
On Thursday we will be out for the day at Chester Zoo. Again we are hoping for a fine day so that the animals will be out to greet us! Remember to bring a waterproof coat, sun hat and sun creme so that we are prepared or evety kind of weather!
We will be returnign a bit later than normal and hope to be back for 3:45 PM so please remember to tell child minders and link clubs of the later time.
FOSV Summer BBQ
Please remember that this Friday 10th July is the Summer barbeque from 6.00pm until late!
Tickets are on sale priced £2.00 per adult and £1 per child - or £5 per family of 2 adults/2 children.
If you are able to help, please let us know!
Hair Styles
We are becoming increasingly concerned about some hair styles that the boys are having. Styles which are short-cropped, with razor lines and gelled crests are not in keeping with the spirit of the uniform policy. We ask for your support with this. Many thanks.
A request from the school Kitchen Staff
If your child would like to purchase toast at break time, then could we ask that you send this in a separate envelope to lunch money.
Last week, a number of our younger children used their lunch money to purchase toast, resulting in a shortfall.
Many thanks.

Numeracy
We are going to spend the next few weeks, consolidating a few areas where the children would benefit from a little more practice, to enable them to really hit the ground running in September. If you would like to support the children in beginning to learn times tables in preparation for Year 3, then that would be fantastic. Year 3 have a weekly times tables champion test – wouldn’t it be fantastic if they could have some children achieving the bronze award in September?
High frequency words
The children are doing really well with these for reading. When they are assessed in school, please remember that since they are sight words, the children are expected to be able to say them as soon as they are seen, rather than blending the sounds together to read the word. We aim to have a real push on these for the remainder of the term, as once they are known, children really do gain confidence with their reading ability.
Curriculum
We will be continuing with the theme of the seaside and making cross-curriculum links with literacy, geography and history. The children will start an individual booklet about the seaside which will take them two weeks to complete. The children will be looking at the location of seaside resorts, looking at the history of seaside holidays and exploring their own ideas and thoughts about the topic.
Punctuality
We would be grateful if children were picked up on time at the end of the day due to staff commitments and meetings. Thank you.
Have a great week!
