Numeracy
We are going to spend the next few weeks, consolidating a few areas where the children would benefit from a little more practice, to enable them to really hit the ground running in September. If you would like to support the children in beginning to learn times tables in preparation for Year 3, then that would be fantastic. Year 3 have a weekly times tables champion test – wouldn’t it be fantastic if they could have some children achieving the bronze award in September?
High frequency words
The children are doing really well with these for reading. When they are assessed in school, please remember that since they are sight words, the children are expected to be able to say them as soon as they are seen, rather than blending the sounds together to read the word. We aim to have a real push on these for the remainder of the term, as once they are known, children really do gain confidence with their reading ability.
Book Week
A big thank you to Mrs Narraway, who has organised both the event in the whole school!
Sports Day
We hope (fingers crossed) to hold our annual sports day this week, although as I type this, the heavens have just opened and the rain is VERY heavy! Our planned day is Wednesday and the infant sports day is held in the afternoon. Should the weather not be suitable on Wednesday, we will hold it on Thursday, again for the infants in the afternoon.
The children should have brought home their PE kits on Friday, ready to be washed and ironed for sports day, so a please...PLEASE do remember to send them back into school on Monday. IF the weather is fine, please remember to send in a hat and sun cream for the children.
The children always love this day and trying your best and taking part is the order of the day!
Could we ask that you do not ask your child to come over to during the afternoon, as we need to ensure the safety and well being of 150 children, particularly as the main gates will be open. The children will be taken to their classrooms at the end of the day and may be collected in the usual way. Many thanks for your understanding with this.
Suncream and Hats - as the weather is going to be particularly warm and sunny (ever the optimist!), could you please ensure that your child has a hat and suncream with them every day. Many thanks.
End of Year Trip
The end of year trip will now take place on 9th July. Many thanks for the volunteers we have had already. If you are still able to help, please let any member of the team know.
Infant Disco
The Infant disco will take place on 8th July - 6.00-7.30pm.
Here I Am
We continue our new topic of 'Neighbours', which focuses on the theme of Belonging.
Curriculum
We will be continuing with the theme of the seaside and making cross-curriculum links with literacy, geography and history. The children will start an individual booklet about the seaside which will take them two weeks to complete. The children will be looking at the location of seaside resorts, looking at the history of seaside holidays and exploring their own ideas and thoughts about the topic.
Punctuality
We would be grateful if children were picked up on time at the end of the day due to staff commitments and meetings. Thank you.
Have a great week
