Weekly update 27.04.09

Hi everyone!
welcome to another week in school.

Literacy
We will be l continuing looking at the topic of "Different stories by the same author" and trying to develop the children's sense of descriptive writing using familiar characters, writing in the past tense. settings and dialogue.
Reading is an essential part of developing stories by the same author this week. The children will have the opportunity to share books with each other and notice key features.

ALL children will read (shared and independently)several books by the same author, looking at similarities and differences.

MOST children will be able to read independently several books by the same author, compare similarities and differences and express and personal response to the text. Find out more about the author.

SOME children will be able to read independently pointing out key features of the text, drawing attention to the features of the authors style of writing.

We will be looking at a range of stories by one particular author and comparing them. We will be comparing settings, characters, themes an saying what we like and dislike about the books. The author we have chosen is Martin Waddell as there are a wide range of stories available to discuss.

Thank you all for the response for the Beeston trip. The children are very excited about the 'big sleepover'!! We will be holding a short meeting for parents on Wednesday 6th May at 3:15 pm to talk about what will happen and preparing for the trip. If you can attend we look forward to seeing you. If you have had an older child who has already been to Beeston the information will be the same as we gave before. Also, this week the children will come home with a medical form which will need to be completed and returned to school by Thursday 7th May. Thank you for your support.

Have a great week! Only 14 sleeps until Beeston!!!
