Thank you for all of your support with the project that the children have done during the week for the science Darwin project - especially those children who individually researched their imaginary animal. The children's work was outstanding!!!!Well done children.
Topic/Science Week
The children will be integrating Literacy and Science this week to make an information book about electricity. The children need to research and write their individual books based upon these learning objectives:
- That every appliances use electricity: these include things that light up, heat up and produce sound and move.
- That everyday appliances are connected to the mains and that they are used safely.
- That some devices use batteries which supply electricity: these can be handled safely.
- To make a connection in circuits to the positive and negative poles of the battery.
- To make a complete circuit using a battery, wires and bulb.
- Explore how to use a light bulb, explaining what happens and using drawing to explain results.
- That electrical devices won't work if there is a break in the circuit. To test circuits and make predictions. To record observations and to say what evidence supports these predictions.
- To explain the dangers of electricity in the home and outside the home.
Mr James
The children will have a visit from Mr James to talk about his job as an electrician. They can pose questions for their individual research about what they would like to learn about electricity.
The travelling Science show will be joining us on Friday for their excellent demonstrations on the topic of "Light and Sound."

Numeracy
Due to the busy week working on the Darwin project the children need to review last weeks numeracy work. They will be continuing to learn on addition and subtraction. we will be subtracting a multiple of 10 from a 2-digit number by counting back in 10s. Also we will be adding and subtracting 9, 11, 19 and 21 by adding and subtracting 10 and 20 then adjusting the number.By the end of the week:-
ALL children MUST be able to subtract 10 from a 2 digit number by counting back in 10's.
MOST children SHOULD be able to subtract a multiple of 10 from a 2 digit number by counting back in 10's. Also can add and subtract 9, 11, 19 and 21 by adding and subtracting 10 and 20.
SOME children COULD be able to subtract a multiple of 10 from a 3 digit number by counting back in 10's. Also can add and subtract 9, 11, 19 and 21 to 3 digit numbers.

We will also be looking at the language of addition and subtraction to ensure that the children are familiar with the words.

Words which mean Subtract:-

Mascot Blogs
We hope you are enjoying reading about the adventures of Sunny and Charlie on their own blogs!! It has been very successful and the children have loved 'logging on' and finding out what the mascots have been up to.
If you want to go on the blogs the addresses are:-www.sunnydinosaur.blogspot.com for sunny in Mrs Malone's class and www.chaliepuppype.blogspot.com for Charlie in Mrs Pinto-Edwards' class.
Please feel free to post a comment if you do log on, but remember to stay safe and don't put any information about yourself which others can see.
Yellow Woods Appeal
The school is still collecting front covers of your old yellow pages. The closing date will be Thursday 9th April.
