Tuesday 5th May 2009
Welcome to the month of May. The weather looks like it it certainly getting warmer although we do advise that the children still bring a coat to school.
The children will be doing their SATS reading comprehension for two mornings this week. They will also be completing a spelling test using high frequency words and spelling pattern words.
Literacy
The children will be continuing with the theme of Martin Waddell books. Thank you to all of the children who have made a special effort to bring in their home copies of Martin Waddell books. Everyone has certainly enjoyed them.
All children must be able to write a story about a familiar character (from a Martin Waddell book)
Most children should be able to write a sustained story about a familiar character using past tense and the third person.
Some children could be able to write a sustained story about a familiar character using past tense and the third person. They could include some dialogue and detail to add interest.

Numeracy
The children will be working hard on covering all aspects of numeracy this week. Their main focus will be to look at beginning to add by bridging a multiple of 10 and to find the difference between two numbers by counting on.
All children must be able to begin to add by bridging a multiple of 10. (resting every time you get to a multiple of 10)
Most children should be able to bridge through a multiple of 10 to help their addition sum. They should be able to find the difference between two numbers by counting on.
Some children could extend their learning by bridging through 10 within hundreds, tens and units.
Science
This week we are continuing with the topic of 'Plants and Animals in the Local Environment.'
Can the children start to look at the different plants that they can see on their ways to school, or while you are out for a walk.
