Weekly update
Hi and welcome back to a very busy half term.
The children have been very busy this week especially with halloween and bonfire night. The children have been working hard to produce some exciting poems about bonfire night. Well done children.
Literacy
This week we are starting a new topic "Instruction". We will be looking at reading simple instructions in the classroom, simple recipes, plans and instructions for constructing something. You probably have lots of instructions at home especially if you have bought something new in your home. Examples could be if you have bought a new toy how does it work, a new piece of furniture how do you put it together. what type of language is used in instructions. First, then, next, last (Imperative language). There are lots of reasons why we need instructions.
It would be great if you could bring any instructions from home to show as examples.

The children could be also working on their high frequency words and language development at home on this website:

Numeracy
We are starting our work on "Subtraction" (take away) this week and looking at the sign and what it means. We will be looking at the language of subtraction. less than, take away, minus. Last week we talked about how adding can be done in any order, but we will look at how subtraction has to be done in order. (whole numbers)
I hope you all know the adding song now the children seem to really enjoy the song.
You can go on the following website for some subtraction games:

Science
We are now starting aour new topic called "Sound and Hearing". The children will be learning that there are many different sounds, explore sounds using their sense of hearing and make observations of sounds by listening carefully.
Over the next two weeks the children will be looking at the topic of Rememberance Day. We will be talking about why people are wearing poppies this week and who we remember on Rememberance Day.
Have a good week!
