Rich Task Week

This week the children will be undertaking rich tasks which will be based around the history topic of famous people and the art topic self portraits.

The main focus of the week will be learning about the artist Lowry and his life and works. The children will be comparing Lowry's work to the work of other famous artist such a Picasso and Klee.

The children will be looking at a variety of Lowry's work especially the portraits of Ann and Head of a man with red eyes.

Most of you will remember the song Matchstalk man and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs by Brian and Michael. The children will have the opportunity to listen to the song and talk about the lyrics. Hopefully you will be able to sing the song at home with your child! That would be great!(for those of you budding x-factor singers out there)

We are going to spend the afternoons this week looking at the three different styles of artist Lowry, Picasso and Klee and experimenting with a range of materials and processes including drawing.
The children will be making a time-line about the life of Lowry and be look at his influences.

The children have started designing and making puppets and these puppets will be continued this week in the style of self portraits.

Two good websites that the children can have a look at are www.thelowry.com and www.sanfords-artedventures.com

We would really appreciate it if the children could bring magazines, newspapers and A4 cereal boxes into school for their art work.

We are sure the children will have a fantastic week and become budding artist!
