Weekly update

Thankyou
We would like to say a big thankyou to Mr Pinto-Edwards for bringing his beautiful daughter Christina into school on Thursday afternoon. The children thought of some fantastic questions to ask him about babies.

General
Our induction meeting will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 3:15pm. We hope to see you there. If you are unable to attend here is some general information:

Reading books will be changed twice a week usually on a Tuesday and Friday morning.

Spelling homework is to be collected on a Monday morning. The process of spelling homework will be explained in greater detail at the induction meeting.

High frequency target words will be put into your child's diary. These target words will be checked every two weeks and your child will have to be able to read and spell the words. When practising the spellings of these words perhaps your child could put the word into a sentence.

Literacy

This week we will be focusing on writing. Work will be based on the story 'Mog and the Vee Ee Tee'. The children will have to think of an animal that visits the vet and describe what happens when they get there. Can they re-tell the story of Mog and the Vee Ee Tee to you? What is their favourite part of the story? How did Mog feel when going to the vets?

A useful website for practising spellings is:

www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/lookcover/lookcover.html

Numeracy

We will be ordering numbers and counting up to 100 (and beyond for some). Can your child read the numbers as words?

Here are some useful websites:

Number words to 20: www.primaryonline.co.uk/sitetour/pol/blastoff1html

Number words to 100: www.sums.co.uk/playground/n2a/playground.htm

Is your child able to work out 1 more/less and 10more/less than a number?

Science

This week we will be discussing animal babies and their parents as a continuation of the topic 'Ourselves'. Do the children know the names of animals and their young e.g dog and puppy?

Please remember if you shop at Tesco we would be very grateful for any sports vouchers you might receive at the checkout.

If your child has not brought their PE kit into school please could they bring it in a.s.a.p.

Remember that the children are not at school on Friday 29th September because the staff have an INSET day.

Have a good week!
