Weekly update
Welcome back to everyone after the beautiful half-term break!
We would like to remind parents that as it appears that Summer has finally arrived could they make sure that the children bring a suitable sunhat into school to wear at playtime.
The Year 2 children have finished their SATs and we are all very proud of their efforts over the last half-term. Also as SATs are now complete the children will work in their classes with their own teacher. The Year 2's are now becoming increasingly excited about the forthcoming trip to Beeston!! More about that soon.
Literacy.
This week in Literacy the children will be working on writing poems about animals.
We are currently in the process of mis-cueing all the children for Guided Reading groups.
Numeracy.
This week we are working on missing number problems, using mental strategies to solve problems and recognising that subtraction is the inverse of addition.
Science.
We are introducing a new topic of Pushes and Pulls. The children will need to know what moves by pushing or pulling and the associated languge e.g squash, squeeze, stretch, bend, twist etc.
History.
Our latest topic is looking at Historical artefacts and recognising similarities and differences between modern and old toys. we have asked the children to bring in one of their favourite toys to draw and talk about.
If any parents have any old toys at home they could send into school so that we could compare modern and old fashioned toys we would be very grateful - and very careful with them!
D/T
Our latest topic involves looking at playground equipment and then designing our own piece of equipment. we will begin the topic by discussing the features of the 'ideal' playground.
SEAL
The final SEAL topic of the year looks at the sensitive subject of Changes. this unit is designed to prepare children for the end of term and to help them to prepare for the coming new school year and how this may affect them.
